Making Theatre That Matters

Fuse Theatre is a nonprofit arts organization founded in 2015 that creates meaningful theatre experiences to expand personal perspectives and connect communities to foster civic engagement.

Our Mission

Fuse Theatre encourages meaningful engagement in communities through theatre. We expand perspectives, challenge the status quo, and promote social, racial, and economic justice. Fuse elevates voices often unheard and stories often left untold to spark dialogue and learn with our audience. We move people towards action and social change.

Education

We believe in the power of storytelling to present social issues in  a personal manner, spark interest, and develop informed  communities. Through our Community Connections Program, we’re developing an understanding of theatre as a catalyst for dialogue and learning.

Performance

We spotlight stories often left untold stories and feature diverse artists on our stages. Our theatrical productions connect audiences, expand perspectives, and strengthen awareness. Our Ignite Artists Program supports our mission to amplify new voices through original theatrical works.

Partnerships

Collaboration is at the heart of everything that we do. Working alongside our artistic, social, and corporate partners allows us to maximize our programmatic impact, share and build our resources, and expand our working capacity.

Equity Statement

Fuse Theatre believes in equity, justice, and inclusion for all. We believe our  work is made stronger by the many voices, perspectives, and experiences we bring into our projects.

We actively welcome all people, inclusive of race, socioeconomic class, color,  national origin, religion, diverse perspectives, age, sex, sexual orientation,  gender, gender identity, neurological or physical ability, veteran status, legal  status, or education level.

Ignite Artists Program

This program fosters artistic collaborations and supports the development of new plays at Fuse. Fuse develops new works in several ways: we support artists from within Fuse as they write and develop new projects, support playwrights from outside of Fuse by producing their original unpublished works, and collaborate with artistic partners to create new works. Ignite Artists provides artists with supportive and unique opportunities to connect with one another and learn from each other.

Events under this program include Creative Coffee Hours, Artist Circles, Pitch Nights, Peer Panels featuring artists, etc.

This program supports Fuse’s productions for youth and families. This includes local tours of bilingual productions - original and published plays that amplify diverse stories and characters for families and youth. Productions in 2023 include: Tomás and the Library Lady, Cinderella Eats Rices and Beans, and What We Remember.

Theatre for Trees (Teatro Para Árboles)

This program focuses on environmental issues and works with environmental partners – primarily Biological Reserve Cerra Hermosa in Oakland, CA. Currently, this program is in development with elements of community-based workshops and productions that will be produced in outdoor venues. We are exploring partnerships/funding in three areas: Oakland/San Leandro, SF Peninsula and Oaxaca Mexico. This is Fuse’s newest program, and it is at the beginning stages of development.
