Help along the way…
As I reflect on the journey I’ve taken with Fuse during the last several years I can list multiple people and organizations that have helped us get to where we are today. Teaching me about grant writing, marketing, branding, company management, budgeting and finances, these champions have stood by my side offering incredible lessons. These lessons have been my “learning curve” and challenge as I transitioned from a purely educational setting to running a theatre company. I wanted to write about how I never could have made it this far and gained the knowledge to run a theatre company without those people.
As in most of my journeys and travels, the people have been the most memorable. The beauty and art of this “theatre company” journey isn’t found in spreadsheets, marketing collateral, social media plans or development or even entirely in our productions and designs, although the Tomás puppets are things of beauty. The artists I’ve collaborated with astound me with their passion and knowledge. Our project partners amaze me with their courage and trust to share their stories. Friends and family willing to help to name the company, donate funds and listen to my crazy project ideas in development! Then the professional communities of the San Mateo Arts Commission, RWC ARTS, Redwood City Park and Arts, Create CA, Full Circle Fund and others have welcomed us as a new player in the arts community. It is the gift of humanity that has kept me moving on this journey. Coincidentally reflecting our philosophy and mission about connecting with people and their stories – or perhaps not so coincidentally!
